Kimura London & White LLP Founding Partner William O. London authored a new article in the Daily Journal examining how artificial intelligence may affect discovery in California divorce proceedings.

In “AI Chat History: Trials and Tribulations of Discovery in a California Divorce Proceeding,” Mr. London discusses whether conversations with ChatGPT and other AI platforms may become relevant in family law litigation, including issues involving privacy, privilege, finances, child custody, property division, and credibility.

The article also addresses an increasingly important point for litigants: information shared with an AI platform should not automatically be assumed to be private or protected by attorney-client privilege.

As AI becomes more integrated into everyday communication, legal research, translation, and decision-making, these questions are likely to become increasingly significant in California litigation.

Mr. London regularly advises clients in complex family law, business, estate planning, and cross-border matters.

The article was published in the Daily Journal on September 1, 2026.
